Old Makenge Basket

Stunning vintage African Wedding Basket that embraces the timeless art of basket weaving in the Zambian tribal tradition. Aptly named, a family heirloom is passed down to a bride on her wedding day. Woven from the root of the Makenge Bush, these baskets have stood the test of time and heavy use as winnowing baskets. As the basket wears, artistic “fixes” are made using maize husks adding interest and design.
